About Piper
I'm a songwriter and composer whose passion is sharing my love of music with others. I graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory with a BA in Mathematics and a BM in Electroacoustic Composition. I went on to get an MA in Sonic Practice from Dartmouth. I'm currently an MFA student at Bard, studying Music/Sound. The styles I write in include pop, electronic, musical theater, and singer/songwriter, but I enjoy music of all genres and love helping people through their artistic challenges, no matter what type of music they're making.

I want to help you unlock your songwriting potential! I teach songwriting for children and adults of all ages. You might be trying to write your very first song, or you might've produced ten albums and are looking for feedback on a song you're trying to perfect. My lesson plans will vary based on your age and experience, but here's what to expect in your first two lessons:
1st Lesson:
We meet and talk about your experience with songwriting and your goals as a songwriter. If you've written songs before, we listen to a couple together and talk about them.
Homework for next lesson :
Write a song based on a prompt (specific prompt varies from person to person)
2nd Lesson:
We listen to the song together and talk about how all the elements of the song are functioning. I give feedback that is dependent on what you're trying to get out of these lessons. That might mean me giving pointers on what to improve, but it might take the form of a conversation where I help you notice things about the song that you might not have before.
My teaching strategy varies from person to person, because I want to meet you where you're at. I'd love to work with you on developing your songwriting practice!
