About Andres

I’m Andres, and I want the sound you are trying to make to remain connected to something you mean. If an instruction leaves you concentrating on your throat while the song disappears from your attention, we may need a different approach. I can demonstrate a smaller contrast, return to the spoken phrase or ask you to listen before singing again. The goal is to make an idea understandable and usable. You should be able to tell me that a description does not help, or that something feels uncomfortable, without worrying that you are giving the wrong answer.

I will ask about your experience of an attempt as well as listen to the sound it produces. A note that sounds stronger is not automatically a useful improvement if it takes much more effort to make. We can compare versions at a comfortable pitch and volume, then decide which choice serves both the voice and the phrase. Feedback will be specific: perhaps the words stayed clear, the beginning felt easier, or the final note held its pitch more steadily. We can work with one of those observations at a time rather than turning the whole voice into a problem to solve.

There is room here for a quiet first attempt, a confident experiment and a question you have been carrying for a while. With a child, I might make the task a short sung exchange; with a teenager, we might explore how a lyric changes when a different word receives emphasis. An adult beginner or returning singer can take time to become familiar with their own sound, while an advanced singer can bring detailed questions about phrasing and consistency. I will not expect any of those people to learn in exactly the same way. I want you to leave with a clearer sense of what you can try next and enough understanding to recognize when that choice is helping.

We will use the words of a song as a practical starting point. Before singing a phrase, you might speak it naturally, notice which word carries its meaning, and then carry that intention into a comfortable sung version. This helps separate communicating the line from trying to make every note sound impressive. For someone singing for the first time, we can begin with a short phrase in an easy range and a clear pitch reference. If you already sing, we can use the same starting point to examine where the melody, the language and your physical effort stop agreeing with one another.

Sometimes a phrase feels manageable on one vowel but becomes awkward when the lyrics return. We can compare the sung vowel with the spoken word, listening for the point where a consonant interrupts the line or the mouth shape changes abruptly. Rather than asking you to stretch the whole phrase repeatedly, we will work with a short, comfortable portion, restore the consonants gently and keep the meaning of the word intact. An intermediate singer may use this to make a melodic phrase more consistent; an advanced singer may explore subtler choices of vowel, articulation and colour. If a note encourages strain, we can lower the key or shorten the task. Discomfort is a reason to stop and adjust, not something to push through.

Breathing will be connected to the phrase you actually need to sing. We can mark a natural place to breathe, decide where the words are heading, and try the line at an easy volume before adding expressive contrast. That lets us hear whether running out of breath comes from the phrase length, an unnecessarily forceful beginning or an unclear plan for the words. Children can explore short musical conversations, teenagers can work with songs that matter to them, and adults or returning singers can build familiarity without being expected to perform confidently from the first minute. Your practice task will be brief and repeatable, with a clear listening aim and comfortable limits, so you can learn from each attempt without tiring your voice through endless repetition.
