About Andrew

Born in 2003, Andrew Nguyen is a pianist and collaborative artist from Irvine, California. He has received recognition from competitions including the Seattle International Piano Competition, Pasadena Sigma Iota Alpha Competition and Lansum International Music Festival. Recent performances include the International Women at the Piano Conference (2023), Rossmoor Chamber Music Society, Hoson Recital Series, and the Upper Bay Philharmonic Society of Orange County. He has also been featured on WUSF 89.7. His festival appearances include the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, and the Piano Program at the Chautauqua Institution, attending on full scholarships.

Andrew earned his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Irvine, where he double majored in economics and piano performance. His studies have been supported by several honors, including the Sarah Caldicott Miller Scholarship, the Rosalyn Goldberg Scholarship, and a four-year award from the Marjorie and Robert Rawlins Scholarship. He is currently pursuing graduate studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studies with Sharon Mann under the Doris Lucille DeCuir scholarship; his earlier mentors include Nina Scolnik and Stewart Gordon.

About the lesson

I am an advocate of healthy piano playing technique, and want to share how I was able to get to the stage of where I am today! I teach outside of the piano also— how theory, harmony, history, and other aspects are able to enrich your piano playing beyond the fingers. I will serve as both a mentor for students who are looking to start on this career path, or teach piano and the foundations!
