About Sofya

I am a patient, organised, and supportive tutor who aims to make learning feel clearer and more manageable for students. I understand that many students struggle not because they are incapable, but because they need topics explained in a way that makes sense to them.

I tutor Maths, English, Combined Sciences, Computer Science, and History, and I enjoy helping students build both subject knowledge and confidence. I work well with students who feel overwhelmed, lack confidence, or need help turning their understanding into stronger written or exam responses.

My goal is to create a calm learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and improving step by step. I want students to leave lessons feeling more capable, more prepared, and less anxious about their schoolwork.

About the lesson

My lessons are structured, supportive, and tailored to the individual student. I usually begin by identifying the student’s current level, any gaps in understanding, and the areas they find most difficult. From there, I break topics down into clear steps, model the method or skill, and then guide the student through practice questions until they can work more independently.

For Maths, I focus on helping students understand why a method works, not just memorise steps. I use a mix of direct explanation, worked examples, guided practice, and independent questions. For GCSE students, I also include exam-style questions, timing strategies, and support with understanding what each question is asking.

Lessons are typically 1 hour, although longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate. I tutor students from primary age up to GCSE level, including KS2, KS3, GCSE, and entrance exam preparation.

I have several years of tutoring experience with students aged 6–16 and have also worked in a secondary school environment. I have supported students with a range of needs, including those building confidence, filling gaps in knowledge, preparing for exams, and developing stronger study habits. I also have experience supporting SEN students and adapt my explanations, pace, and lesson structure to suit the learner.

Where useful, I set a small amount of relevant practice between lessons so students can reinforce what we covered and continue making progress.
