About Jacob

I'm a Computer Science and Electrical Engineering student at the University of Wollongong, with a genuine passion for coding that goes back to running my own freelance web development business since 2022. Over that time I've designed and built full production websites for paying clients — from initial Figma design through to a coded HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React build and live deployment — including one project that achieved a 99% Google Lighthouse score across performance, accessibility and SEO.

Alongside my freelance work, I lead an interdisciplinary university team building an autonomous surveying robot, writing Python and MATLAB scripts and designing hardware schematics. I also hold a completed Bachelor of Environmental Science, so I bring a genuinely broad academic background alongside my technical skills.

What I enjoy most about coding is the moment something you've built actually works and I love helping others get to that same moment. I'm patient, easy to talk to, and good at explaining technical ideas in plain, everyday language, something I've had plenty of practice with as the sole point of contact for my freelance clients. Whether you're completely new to coding or want extra support building on what you already know, I'd love to help you get there.

About the lesson

I take a hands-on, project-based approach to teaching coding and web development, since that's how I learned best myself by building real things rather than just working through theory. My own freelance web development business has given me practical, real-world experience across HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React, including projects deployed live for paying clients, which means I can teach not just how to write code but how to actually ship something that works.

Lessons typically run for an hour, with a mix of guided explanation and hands-on practice, adjusted to each student's pace and goals. I'm a final-year Computer Science and Electrical Engineering student, with a strong academic record including High Distinctions in core programming units, so I can support both practical coding skills and underlying theory.

My lessons suit complete beginners through to intermediate students, whether you're a high school student exploring coding for the first time, a university student wanting extra support with assignments, or an adult looking to build a website or learn to code for a career change. I'm patient, clear, and focused on making sure concepts genuinely click before moving on.
