About Kushal
Dear students and parents,
I am excited to share with you my qualifications as a tutor in both programming and chess, two subjects I am extremely passionate about. I believe that the combination of these subjects can instill in students the essential skills of problem-solving, strategic thinking, and creativity.
Firstly, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, one of the premier institutions in the United States. During my studies, I immersed myself in relevant coursework including Data Structures and Algorithms, Database Management Systems, Operating Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Programming Abstractions: Python, Computer Systems and Assembly Language, and Artificial Neural Networks. These studies provide me with a broad and in-depth understanding of computer science, enabling me to cater my teaching to the needs and goals of individual students.
My experience as a Teaching Assistant for Computer Systems at the University of California, Santa Cruz further cemented my love for teaching and mentoring. I had the privilege of providing troubleshooting and debugging support for over 400 students, resolving complex syntax, runtime, and logical errors in software and hardware implementations. I led numerous virtual sessions, helping students improve their problem-solving efficiency and grasp of computer system concepts. This resulted in a 15% improvement in students' project scores and an 85% overall pass rate, achievements I am very proud of.
However, my passion for education extends beyond the traditional classroom. In 2016, I founded CAPS4Kids, a project dedicated to teaching chess and programming to underprivileged students in my hometown. Over the years, I have taught more than 56 students, ranging from elementary to high school age.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when in-person instruction was no longer feasible, I created an official website using Bootstrap, HTML5, CSS3, and PHP, allowing for a smooth transition to remote learning. This initiative has not only maintained the continuity of learning but also resulted in a 22% increase in student participation after I organized a promotional event in collaboration with Math Edge.
In conclusion, I am deeply committed to providing a supportive and engaging learning environment. I understand the unique challenges students face when learning new concepts, and I am prepared to guide them every step of the way. I am confident that my skills, experience, and passion make me an excellent tutor for anyone interested in mastering programming or chess.
