About Zeke
I am a composer, violinist, and organizer based in New York City with a wide range of professional experience in music. I have written music for choir, chamber ensemble, orchestra, and more; and have undergone extensive conservatory training in music theory and history.
Most recently, I graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with my master's degree in composition, and hold degrees from Bard College-Conservatory in composition and the written arts.

I am comfortable teaching any level of student, beginner-to-advanced, and treat each student uniquely based on their learning style with the intention of meeting them where they're at.
With a new composition student, my goal is to help you unlock the technical freedom that allows for full creative expression. This will be done through an accumulation of exercises, individual workshops, and listening examples.
What a beginner would learn:
-Orchestration
-Large-scale development and form
-General compositional technique
-Clarity of concept and execution of expression
I can help with any level of music theory, all the way to the present day; including counterpoint, late-romantic harmony, and serialism.
What a beginner will learn:
-How to read Western music notation
-Music fundamentals such as key signatures, time signatures, scales, and chords
-Music harmony and analysis
-Counterpoint and voice-leading
-Post-tonal harmony and composition
I have extensive knowledge and experience in music history, with my strongest areas being the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
What a beginner would learn:
-Western music history, from Gregorian chant to the 21st century
-To recognize important keystone pieces and composers
-Notable musical events and their context within a larger historical framework
I am happy to teach two different subjects on alternate weeks, or in unique scenarios, combine different subjects within a lesson!
