About Shergo
I am a composer, instrumentalist, and university lecturer with a deep passion for music and musical education. I hold a Master’s degree in composition from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden, and have more than ten years of experience teaching music theory, composition, and instruments.
My work brings together different musical traditions, including Western classical music and Middle Eastern modal music (maqam). As both a teacher and a practicing musician, I aim to help students understand music not only intellectually but also as a living artistic language.
Over the years I have taught students of different ages and levels, from beginners discovering music for the first time to more advanced musicians seeking a deeper understanding of theory and composition. I value patience, clarity, and a supportive learning environment in which students feel encouraged to explore and develop their musical voice.
Whether your goal is to understand music theory, improve your instrumental skills, or deepen your overall musical knowledge, I will be happy to guide you in your musical journey.

Want a new source of inspiration that makes your music sound fresh and distinctive?
Discover the rich world of microtonal scales, maqam, and new harmonic possibilities beyond the limits of 12-tone equal temperament.
In this course, we explore the fundamentals of the Middle Eastern maqam system and expand from it toward a practical approach to microtonal harmony for contemporary composers. Rather than abandoning tonality, we will learn how to expand it through microtones, opening new expressive and harmonic possibilities.
As Igor Stravinsky once suggested in an interview with Robert Craft, microtonality may be one of the most promising directions for the future of music. This course invites you to explore this possibility in a practical and creative way.
The course begins with the basic principles of maqam and gradually moves toward microtonal chord structures, and modern workflows for notating and producing microtonal music.
This course is designed for:
• Composers trained in Western music theory
• Film and media composers looking for new harmonic colors
• Experimental musicians interested in microtonality
• Musicians curious about the maqam system
• Ethnomusicology students
To encourage discussion and provide individual feedback, enrollment is limited to five students. The course will begin once at least three students have registered.
