About Ann

Greetings. Ann, again, your tutor for the subject of your search. What I am about to share is not to brag or give you an “Ooo aaah” impression. I want my students to understand that licensure for RN/LPN provides limitless possibilities!
I graduated Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. I hold a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education, earning a 4.0 GPA, and receiving the Graduate of the Year Award 2014 from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Nursing Program. I also hold certifications in Professional Legal Nurse Consulting, which keep me knowledgeable about the roles and practices of RNs and LPNs as well as ADHD Consultant. Since completing this formal education, I have practiced in varied roles, both nationwide and internationally.

While team-teaching in an associate degree nursing program for 17 years, I learned that not all instructors are alike. Your school experiences likely gave you the same impression. As a tutor, I hold my students to a high standard, regardless of their learning styles or differences. Students of all types can achieve great things when they commit to their goals. I commit to preparing and studying for each tutoring session, as I will ask of you.

I tutor using current information from the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN). Compared to the former NCLEX, I believe the NGN is a fairer assessment (and easier) for newly graduated RNs and LPNs. I include explanations that support that belief during our sessions.

My specialties are Women’s Health (including Obstetrics) and Surgical Services. Like most professionals, I can't limit myself to those narrow concepts when the RN/LPN Scopes of Practice are so broad. Therefore, in addition to the above topics, I am self-taught through reading current research, attending subject matter conferences in neurodiversity, and I am ADHD. My studied neurodiversities include ADHD, Autism, Executive Dysfunction, and dyslexia, which hinder many people from the success they desire and deserve.

I find that many middle school students, and even adults, lack the essential skills needed to progress toward their chosen goals. Therefore, I tutor in study strategies and organization by exploring Executive Skills, or Functions, as “study strategies.”

My commitment to your success must match yours in meeting your selected goals. As you found nursing studies to be the hardest coursework you ever had, so too is the preparation for the NGN – that ultimate exam that bestows Registered Nurse and Practical Nurse licensure on those putting forth their best effort. Surprisingly, many of my students believe that effort does NOT include endless study. I will explain that along with many other truisms seldom shared by nursing programs.

So what about me? My husband and I just hit our 50th anniversary. For those married students, you know those years were as smooth as silk - not! They have been interesting. We have two incredible (okay, what else can a mother say?) daughters. Our older daughter is a Licensed Lead Vet Technician, thus fulfilling my initial dream of being a veterinarian. Our younger daughter, who brought us knowledge of neurodiversities of AuADHD and late-diagnosed dyslexia, decided to follow her sister. She is currently studying to become a licensed vet tech. Both women are amazing in what they can do. It constantly amazes me, and it gives me such positive vibes for my tutored students!

I am an animal rescuer. We have an adorable 16 lb. dachshund, corgi, terrier mix (12 yo) and our newest addition, a black 8-month-old kitten.

And again, if you have questions about my professional background, bring them on. I enjoy answering these questions because they show you what is possible in our profession. For example, I was recruited to help two other forward-thinking RNs build and open a freestanding women’s hospital in Chattanooga, TN. That is something your programs never prepared you for.

We are in this quest together. Won’t you use my expertise to win? Our first hour is free, so you can ask any questions about the how, when, where, and who you are dealing with. I have a plan. Do you?

You have come this far on the most competitive and challenging quest for your place in the professions of RN or LPN. Allow me to help you complete that journey successfully.

Rather than reteach, I guide you in applying your retained knowledge to critical thinking, and the newest test of your competency, clinical judgment.

During each session, I reference the "test plans" provided by the National Council of the State Boards of Nursing (ncsbn.org) available to all nursing students, we practice items (questions) for each of their eight categories included in your exam.

We discuss the rationales for each item because they often contain information providing cues to your understanding for other items. Yes, as you are taking the exam!

I enjoy and invite questions. Your mind views information in many different ways. In a light-hearted manner, I seek to reassure that you have what you need to succeed.

I present items as they are visually formatted on the most current Next Generation NCLEX (NGN), which is reviewed and updated every three years.

Each 1-2 hour session (your choice in time and frequency that fit available calendar openings) provides as many items as possible without rushing through information that you need and/or require. This is not a race to succeed; even though it is a timed test. None of the items I provide or you may read in the many review resources will ever be seen on your NGN.

Again, as we travel through practice items, I am wide-open to your questions for additional information. Think of me as one of your academic resources. If I do not have an immediate answer, then we both learn. No RN with years of practice has all the answers, but I know where to find them as well as explain the physiological and pathophysiological background for your fuller understanding.

The sooner you register for the NGN after graduation, research supports a greater chance of success. Sign up for my service as soon as you recognize you might want it. I try to respond to your request within 24 hours to explain any area you feel is foggy. That phone call is a free welcoming consultation. I want you to feel our partnership is comfortable for your success.

We can do this. Success is based on both our commitments to work hard and go for your goal of RN or LPN. You are almost done. A̠l̠l̠o̠w̠ m̠e̠ to be one of the first to welcome you to the sisterhood or brotherhood of nursing.
