About Excelsior Online
I have been an educator all my life, starting from teaching piano, to teaching English, Humanities, and Communications at the middle school, high school, and college levels, to being a higher education administrator as a dean and/or director of education and liberal arts. My PhD is in Curriculum and Instruction in Education, my M.A. in English Language Arts and Health Administration, my B.A. in English Language and Literature with minors in Communication, Psychology and Art History. I love to empower children, teens and adults alike to reach their potential, discover their passions, explore new directions, and manage current work, business, or academic challenges. As a Dean and Director for undergraduate and graduate level programs at colleges, I have a deep understanding of the standards, expectations, and rigor needed to not only be admitted at universities but also be successful in college. That's why I consider it my mission and motivation to prepare students for college.

2-Phase prep and process to showcase your authentic, genuine self and convince your target and reach colleges that you are the perfect fit.
Phase 1 - Discovery Prep
1. Accomplishments, Contributions, and Challenges
Reflect on and articulate key milestones, setbacks, and personal growth to build a strong narrative foundation.
2. Strengths, Passions, and Superpowers
Uncover what makes your teen truly unique, showcasing their talents and interests in a way that stands out.
3. College Profiling and Alignment
Understand the selected universities’ values, goals, and expectations as a campus and department and determine how they align with your teen’s goals and vision and whether they will thrive academically and personally.
4. Values and Goals Alignment
Identify core values and long-term goals to ensure their college journey aligns with who they are and who they aspire to be.
5. Major, Themes, and Vision Alignment
Explore potential majors and career paths, connecting them with a broader vision for their future. Create an actionable roadmap to address any gaps and prepare for the next phases of the application process and college selection.
6. Next Steps to Prepare
Analyze admissions essay prompts from various colleges (your choice of 2 colleges) to understand expectations and start brainstorming effective, precise ideas.
Interactive and Personalized Feedback
This is not a passive, one-size-fits-all program. Throughout this phase, your teen will receive:
• Direct Feedback: Thorough evaluations and constructive insights on every assignment.
• Recommendations and Revisions: Guidance to refine responses where needed, ensuring they meet the highest standards and be ready for the next module.
• Interactive Support: Real-time direction and collaboration to unlock your teen’s best ideas.
What Makes This Phase Critical?
This is an explorative and reflective journey that goes beyond filling out forms or checking boxes. It’s about helping your teen discover, cultivate, and showcase him/herself in ways that will create a compelling, convincing, and effective application packet for each university selected:
• Discover the facets of their identity—psychological, emotional, and even spiritual—that make them unique.
• Present a cohesive personal brand that will be woven into their essays, interviews, and applications.
• Avoid common pitfalls like generic responses, mismatched college choices, or an unclear vision for their future.
• Reduce the stress and pressure for teens and parents, knowing that they are on track to preparing for college and the applications.
Admissions committees are not just looking for high-achieving students—they are looking for authentic individuals who will make meaningful contributions to their campus. This phase ensures your teen’s application captures the depth of their potential and addresses gaps and weaknesses that can be cultivated over the next few months before the pressure of writing the actual essays intensifies.
Phase 2: This phase is comprehensive and personalized, covering all the key components of up to five chosen colleges:
• Long and Short Essays: Explicate, develop, refine, and finalize essays tailored to each school’s unique prompts.
• Common App: Craft responses that highlight your teen’s strengths and values.
• Resume: Create a professional, polished document that captures their academic and extracurricular achievements.
• Short Prompts: Ensure all brief responses are purposeful and impactful.
What You Can Expect
This phase is highly interactive and intensive, requiring multiple revisions and collaboration between your teen and me. We will work together to ensure the essays meet the highest standards of:
• Style and Clarity: Essays will be polished, professional, and compelling.
• Flow and Organization: Each piece will tell a cohesive story that aligns with the student’s overall application narrative.
• Purpose and Depth: Essays will highlight the student’s values, growth, and multifaceted persona.
• Thematic integration: Essays will weave selected themes that best showcase the student’s strengths, challenges, and dimensions.
• Vision, Voice, and Authenticity: Essays will reveal the student’s identity, future outlook, focused goals and ambition, and true voice with authenticity and credibility.
Process Overview:
• Analyze Prompts: Understand what each college is asking and what admissions committees expect.
• Identify Themes: Develop motifs and unique content for each essay, avoiding redundancy while maintaining a cohesive voice.
• Outline and Draft: Create clear, organized outlines and first drafts.
• Edit and Revise: Refine essays through multiple rounds of feedback to ensure they are impactful and error-free.
• Prepare for Submission: Finalize essays and monitor deadlines, aiming to submit applications 1–2 weeks before deadlines.
Most essays prepared during this phase can be further tweaked for additional colleges, providing students with a strong foundation for any future applications.
Why This Investment Is Worth It
The college admissions process is one of the most pivotal moments in your teen’s life. This phase provides:
• Clarity: Helping your teen understand who they are and what they want.
• Confidence: Ensuring they can present themselves authentically and powerfully.
• Strategy: Positioning them to stand out in an increasingly competitive landscape.
• Stress Reduction: Helping your teen understand how to showcase themselves in the essays and what colleges expect in those essays is a huge burden off your teen’s shoulders.
By investing in this phase, you’re not just preparing your teen for college—you’re giving them the tools to articulate their values, passions, and potential, skills that will serve them for a lifetime. You’re also empowering them to enjoy this process in preparation for their college. Not only will they have a more confident, secure sense of self, vision, and direction, they will appreciate being done with this application process before inevitable burnout hits.
