About Mary

As a student of Classics I am passionate about all aspects of the subject, not only for its linguistic aspects but also everything ranging from the literary and historical to the poetic. As an all 9/A* student at GCSE and A-level I understand how important it can be to foster understanding the more complex aspects of the subjects to be able to apply them to the thematic study of the subject as a whole. Additionally I am bilingual in French with B2 in German and willing to negotiate help with applications, and general written work, as well as teach bilingually alongside English. In my free time I am interested in reading especially Russian literature (alas in translation), theatre and acting, editing and writing, and all sorts of outdoor sports ranging from running and hiking to rowing and sailing.

About the lesson

My lessons look to especially focus on preparing you for exam performance, but also igniting a passion for the subjects you undertake to study. The ability to perform highly in an academic context is often closely tied to fluency and enjoyment of the content. By learning and understanding grammar and syntax and improving translation and composition skills a great variety of texts will be open to deeper study. My techniques and teaching methodology centre around practice, learning and application with typical lesson length 30 or 45 minutes and a focus on marked and independent spaced repetition homework, which I will mark and offer feedback on. Especially, I want to focus on helping you learn the language as efficiently as possible by going through and explaining the theory clearly in a manner which makes sense to you and will make it easier to employ in practice. I teach language at any level and have experience myself with the GCSE and A-Level courses of Latin, Ancient Greek, Ancient History.
