About Jayson

Music theory, sight playing, and classical repertoire form the foundation of my practice, though I prioritize feeling over rigid adherence to the page. Teaching for 13 years across Washington DC has taught me that the best technical habits grow from genuine musical curiosity. My students range from adults picking up the instrument for the first time to conservatory hopefuls prepping for auditions.

I hold these distinct groups to identical standards of focus and precision. I am a musician who demands clarity in dynamics and expression, even when improvising. Whether exploring pop or memorization techniques, I maintain the same sharp intensity. Expect a mentor who cares deeply about the architecture of your sound.

About the lesson

Technique is often treated as a chore, yet it serves as the primary gateway to true artistic freedom. I combine my MMus from New England Conservatory with 13 years of practical performance to simplify complex mechanical challenges.

Prior to drafting a learning plan, I conduct a diagnostic playing assessment to understand your specific habits. This process allows us to pinpoint exactly where structure meets expression.

We integrate accompaniment skills and jazz improvisation into the standard curriculum to expand your stylistic vocabulary. My approach avoids fluff in favor of consistent, measurable gains. You can expect a professional environment designed to refine your musical identity through deliberate practice. Reach out whenever you are ready to begin.
