About Chris
As mentioned earlier, I am currently a student at The Juilliard School in New York City. However, I grew up in Texas and went to public high school there. I do not come from a musical background. In fact, the opposite; my family is very much into sports. I played football for 10+ years in addition to other sports like lacrosse, wrestling, baseball, and even swimming at one point. Now I don’t play sports too often, but I do enjoy going to the gym or doing yoga and Pilates.

I think that my teaching philosophy works for all ages; I like to begin by building up a student’s facility in their fundamental abilities, always through the repertoire and not endless ‘warm up’ studies, and then delve deeper into the repertoire and build on individual musical nuance. I believe learning through the repertoire strongly develops students both as a clarinetist AND a musician. For me, it is valuable that the clarinet (and music) is something enjoyable, comfortable, and fun for the student. Even if my students don’t pursue music as a career, I hope that they can grow as an individual musician and build a greater appreciation for music as an art in our time together.
