About Pietro

I am a navigated player that has competed with good results in many chess tournaments over the years. As of today (09.06.24) I am rated 1731 FIDE. I have been a league team captain for Southampton chess club for the duration of the 2022/23 season. I am a passionate teacher with a desire to bring chess to as many minds as possible. My experience working with kids for years has made me an expert communicator for this type of students, but my friendly and positive attitude has success with learners of every age or background. I like to make the lessons as fun and entertaining as I can, chess is amazing after all! I keep an affordable rate to make my lessons as accessible as possible, and I can teach both in English and Italian. I am happy to travel for the lessons or to have them online.

About the lesson

Chess is much more than just rules and memorisation, it is an art and a reflection of life! I guide students to understand how the board "thinks" on a deeper level, what is the true value of moves and pieces, and how to organically and steadily improve at chess. I usually teach complete beginners but offer growth and development to intermediate players too (up to 1500 rated). I have wide experience working with very young kids (4-12 years of age) and use friendly but effective teaching methods to keep the lessons entertaining. Beginners topics will cover: -All rules (including special rules and tournament rules) -Moves notation -All principal game concepts -Game practice and training -Opening/middlegame/endgame theory -And more! Intermediate topics will cover: -How to find brilliant moves -How to deliver a successful attack -How to defend worse positions -How to evaluate positions -Positional play vs dynamic play -Advanced opening/middlegame/endgame theory -And more!
