About Matthew

My name is Matthew, and I am deeply passionate about chess. I strive to kindle the same love for chess in other people, through the game's intellectual depth despite its sometimes exasperating nature.

I developed an interest in chess in 2021 and joined my school’s chess club in 2022. Since then, I have actively participated in competitive tournaments, achieving strong results, including a 5/6 score in both interschool competitions on the Central Coast and receiving the NSW JCL Intermediate Grade Division Award. In 2025, I represented my school in the Central Coast Metropolitan Tournament, contributing to our team’s championship victory with a perfect 6/6 score on my board.

About the lesson

- Development of positional and tactical play in the middlegame phase, through the pruning and guiding of key ideas within the middlegame.

- Analysing student games in their own games and training matches to develop key insights into their playing methodology and areas requiring improvement.

- Development of strategic vision, such that a student will be able to identify the best course of action in any type of position.

- Building techniques to improve the efficiency and accuracy of calculation.
