About Fionn
I have been teaching chess for several years now. Chess is one of my main passions, and as a professional educator, teaching chess is a joy for me and comes naturally. Several of my past students have gained 100+ rating points within a year of starting to work with me. I would be happy to refer you to them so you can hear their views on my coaching - just ask! I play chess competitively and have recently started playing for Southampton Chess Club's A team. My ECF rating is 1700, my chess.com rapid rating is over 2000, and my lichess rapid rating peaked at 2190.

Learn Chess Principles - Improve your Opening, Middlegame and Endgame play by learning about general principles which guide your thinking and calculation. Better Thought Process - Blunder-checking, checking forced lines first, comparing alternatives, and prioritising piece activity. Analysing your Games - I will provide detailed feedback on your games, especially your losses, and help you understand how to do better in future. Diagnosing and Eliminating Weaknesses - by studying your games, we will identify your weaknesses (e.g. tactics, positional play, passivity) and I will give homework exercises designed to help you move past them.
