About Akhil
I’m a competitive chess player and coach with 5 years of playing experience and a Rapid rating of 1750, with a peak rating of 1851. I’m also an active member of my university chess team and have represented my university in multiple inter-university and national-level tournaments.
I have competed in tournaments including the North Zonal AIU Tournament, BITS Pilani Chess Tournament, UPES Dehradun Tournament, and Ashoka University Tournament. My team has also achieved 1st place at university-level competitions.
Alongside playing competitively, I have professional experience as a Chess Trainer, where I worked with beginner and intermediate students, conducted game analysis, and tracked their progress.
I enjoy helping students understand chess in a simple and practical way. Whether you are completely new to chess or already know the basics and want to improve, I focus on making lessons engaging while helping you develop better thinking, strategy, tactics, and confidence over the board.
My goal is not just to teach you moves, but to help you understand **why** a move is good and develop the skills to find strong moves on your own.

I believe chess is best learned by understanding the ideas behind each move rather than simply memorizing openings or moves. I focus on building strong fundamentals, improving calculation and decision-making, and helping students understand their own games.
A typical class starts with a short discussion or warm-up, followed by a focused lesson on a specific topic such as openings, tactics, strategy, endgames, or positional concepts. We then apply the concept through practical positions and games, followed by analysis of the student's mistakes and areas for improvement.
My teaching style is interactive and student-focused. I encourage students to think through positions themselves and explain their reasoning before I provide guidance. I also track progress and adjust lessons according to the student's playing level and goals.
My classes are mainly suitable for beginner to intermediate players, including school students, college students, and adults who want to improve their chess. With competitive tournament experience, university-level chess experience, and previous experience training students, I aim to make every class practical, engaging, and improvement-oriented.
