About Lysandra
I am 22 years old and I have recently completed my Chemical Engineering degree at Wits University and am currently taking a gap year.
I have always felt confident in academics and am a patient teacher. I achieved 8 distinctions in matric and I completed my degree with a distinction (cum laude) . I really enjoy tutoring as I find that academia is often an area which can be very stressful and frustrating for students and it brings me joy being able to help students in this domain by imparting the tools and tips that I used to succeed to hopefully help make it a more pleasant and enjoyable experience for them. I find it rewarding being able to help students reach their potential by teaching them with encouragement, patience and care. Maths and science, in particular, are subjects that have traditionally brought about much distress to many students. I really enjoy these subjects and feel passionate about getting students to enjoy them and get as excited and interested about them as I am!
Education has been the most empowering tool I have gained, and it because of this that I feel so enthusiastic about tutoring as it allows me the opportunity to contribute in any way that I can to the empowerment of other students through education.

I have been tutoring for 4 years now. My tutoring sessions are always unique to the particular student I am working with. They are always geared towards what the student specifically wants to work on and the areas where they battling. For maths and science in particular, my methodology is primarily practice, practice and more practice as in my experience this is the secret to success for these subjects. I will normally start with going over the theory and any particular concepts or sections they may not have grasped in class or do not feel very confident in and then move to practice, working through some examples together first and then allowing them to do other examples by themself with me there should they get stuck at any point or have questions and seek guidance at any point.
