About Ali

The bulk of my career has been in the social integration/youth and community sector wherein I have facilitated large-scale recruitment, assessment and training events for thousands of seasonal youth workers. In my roles as Youth Programme Leader, Creative Workshop Facilitator and Public Speaking Coach on the government funded National Citizen Service programme, I have facilitated transformational experiences for hundreds of young people, helping them to build the trust, confidence and life skills to thrive as compassionate, active citizens in an uncertain world.

I am fascinated by communication, written, verbal and non-verbal and have a unique talent for facilitating connection and understanding. My BA Hons in Journalism has given me a solid grounding in how to 'hook' an audience and convey a particular message in different ways, and my keen interest in spirituality and behavioural psychology has equipped me with the knowledge of what makes people 'tick' and how to use this to leverage a situation. In addition, I have spent time as a nature connection facilitator, teaching bushcraft and survival skills to school groups and I love to work outdoors whenever possible.

About the lesson

I am a multipassionate educator, trainer, facilitator and communicator, with a strong focus on community cohesion and authentic expression. I can teach you how to connect with the hearts and minds of your audience in a relaxed and genuine way, 'read the energy in the room' like a zen master and arm you with an arsenal of connection tools to inspire, motivate and engage groups both large and small. I have experience working with humans of all backgrounds and ages from 5 to 65 and can create bespoke lessons for both children and adults.

BUT TAKE HEED!!! This will not be your stuffy run-of-the-mill public speaking and presentation skills tutoring.... My methodology is unorthodox and rooted in the belief that at our core, humans are purely emotional beings and that by learning how to harness this, your speeches and facilitation skills can have maximum impact. My work has an emphasis on personal and social development and I strive to create therapeutic 'safe spaces' for my clients to gently explore their inner world and so affect and improve their outer experience and performance. You may therefore at times be asked to step beyond your usual comfort zone and embrace a new way of 'being' and communicating, potentially drawing on modalities that are entirely new to you such as energy and embodiment practies, Nonviolent Communication, Way of Council or Authentic Relating. All lessons, however, will be tailored to the individual needs and desired outcomes of the client and I am happy to facilitate a more traditional public speaking lesson if you wish (particularly useful for children and young people, with a focus on style and building confidence). For these reasons, our first lesson will largely be an information gathering session to determine the client's skill gaps, interests and learning goals.

In addition to public speaking and group facilitation skills, I am also able to offer tutoring in conflict resolution, behaviour management, English up to GCSE, copy writing, proof-reading and positive mindset coaching.

Lessons will take place at the client's home or online via Facetime. In warmer months it may be possible for clients to attend lessons at the smallholding where I reside near Durham City, to learn nature connection and facilitation skills if desired.
