About Elisabeth
I believe that an engaging education is one of the most valuable things in the world. I've always made my own education a top priority; I graduated from a public high school with a 4.2/4.0 weighted GPA, high honors, and several merit scholarships, including an award from the National Honor Society for being a national semifinalist in their scholarship competition. I was invited to the honors program at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), which I now attend as a double major in political science and English. I am also currently interning for one of my professors at the Cline Center for Advanced Social Research. I have past experience as a paid private tutor, and I've spent the last two summers working as a traveling cheerleading camp instructor. As your tutor, I will help you develop the skills you'll need for higher levels of education, build your confidence as a student, and find the joy in learning.

I take a targeted approach to teaching based on active learning. My role as a tutor is to be a guide to an explorer; rather than giving a student answers to memorize or reciting information to them, I focus on building the student's skills and genuine engagement with their course material. Though I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all method, and I will tailor my style to the needs of each individual student, my general approach to lessons begins and ends with facilitating an honest self-reflection. In my view, this is the most important skill a student can develop. We will then ground ourselves in the assignment or topic we mean to tackle, get a refresher on the fundamental tools we'll need, and then work, one step at a time, through the more advanced concepts. These lessons are designed for K-12 students and are meant to supplement or aid (but not replace) a full-time education.
