• 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I speak English fluently due to my origins as a native speaker. However, my passion for language and teaching has been greatly inspired by influential teachers along the way. That's why I believe that a good teacher is a big part of success in learning a language.
  
  I speak Russian fluently because it’s my native language, but my passion for teaching and sharing it with others was sparked by the amazing teachers who inspired me along the way. Their dedication showed me how transformative a great teacher can be, and it’s why I’m so committed to helping my students master Russian. I believe a supportive, inspiring teacher is key to unlocking the beauty of any language!

• 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  Russian culture is rich in cult characters: from bogatyrs and heroes of classical literature to modern films. Among this diversity, I would like to highlight the character of Yura Borisov in the film Anora, who won an Oscar. He looks like a bandit, but he is a man with a big heart and always strives to help selflessly and without asking for anything in return.

• 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition, or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

  At the end of February and beginning of March of each year, Maslenitsa begins in Russia. It is a holiday that lasts a week and during this time we often eat pancakes with jam, sour cream, honey, fish or caviar. And the last day of this holiday is called Forgiveness Sunday. This is the day when we ask each other for forgiveness if we have offended someone. And we also burn a straw effigy symbolizing farewell to winter and welcoming spring.

• 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Russian isn’t just a language—it’s a gateway to an incredible culture! As a teacher, I feel privileged to share one of the world’s most fascinating and challenging languages with my students. Helping students discover the richness of Russian culture and language is deeply rewarding, and it’s why I’m so passionate about what I do.

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language, and what can help the process of learning?

  The biggest challenge for learners is often Russian grammar, especially cases and their endings, which don’t exist in English. Choosing the right words and using them correctly can also feel tricky at first. The key is to take it step by step: learn the meanings of words, practice grammar in context, and read or listen to real-life examples. With patience, practice, and guidance, these challenges become opportunities to grow. I’m here to help you navigate it all and make the process enjoyable!

• 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school

  When I was in school, my class was supposed to go to the theater, but I really didn’t want to go. So, I made up a story and told my teacher that my family couldn’t afford the ticket. Later, at a parent-teacher meeting, my teacher asked my mom about our “financial troubles.” My mom was mortified, and that evening, I got a serious talking-to! That experience taught me a big lesson: honesty is always the best policy.

• 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Since I travel around Russia regularly, it helps me learn words, phrases and culture of a particular region in Russia. It’s like bringing a piece of Russia to our lessons!

• 8) What makes you a Superprof in the language?

  I’m a native Russian speaker with a teaching certification in the language, but what truly sets me apart is my dedication to my students. I’m always evolving my teaching style to meet their unique needs and learning preferences. I love connecting with new students, understanding how they learn best, and tailoring my approach to help them succeed. Moreover, I study other languages, which allows me to see the lessons from the student's point of view and better understand the problems a student may face. I’m committed to helping every student reach their full potential while enjoying the journey of learning Russian.
