About Nagisa
When I first studied at the university in US as a foreign student, I struggled to understand the spoken English in class. It was a challenging experience, and I continued to work hard throughout my university years.
Even today, I continue to challenge myself by learning new languages, so I understand what it feels like to be a language learner. This experience helps me understand my students’ perspectives and support them with patience and encouragement.
Before becoming a Japanese language professor, I worked as a consultant for British and American companies. This experience taught me how to set clear goals, create practical plans to achieve them, communicate with people from different backgrounds, and explain ideas clearly. I also enjoy creating engaging PowerPoint materials for online lessons.
Although I live outside Japan, I absolutely love Japan! I am particularly interested in Japanese art, traditional crafts, architecture, food culture, and pop culture. I return to Japan for several months each year and enjoy traveling around the country.
I would be very happy to have the opportunity to learn Japanese together while also talking about Japan— the things that interest you.

My aim is to make learning Japanese enjoyable, practical, and motivating while helping each student make steady progress toward their goals.
①My teaching approach and methodology:
I adapt the lesson content, materials, and activities to your needs. Depending on your goals, we can focus on conversation, pronunciation, grammar, reading, writing, everyday Japanese, academic Japanese, or JLPT preparation.
My lessons are primarily taught using the direct method, with Japanese as the main language of instruction. Although this approach may feel challenging at first, I believe that continuing to learn through Japanese is one of the most effective ways to develop natural communication skills and confidence.
At the same time, I understand that some explanations can be easier with a little support. When necessary, I can use English as a support language during the lesson, so you never have to worry about not understanding something.
②Lesson length:
A typical lesson is 50-60 minutes, but the lesson format can be adapted depending on your needs and learning goals.
Qualifications and experience
I am a Japanese language teacher registered with the Ministry for Education and Cultural of Japan (=MEXT, Monbukagakushou) and have completed a 420-hour Japanese language teacher training course in Japan. I have teaching experience at Japanese language schools as well as Japanese public schools.
I have taught more than 250 learners from over 15 countries, from complete beginners to advanced students, both children and adults (students and business people)
