About Oviya
I'm Oviya, a Counseling Psychologist and SEL Educator with an M.Sc in Counseling Psychology from Christ University, Bangalore, and over two years of experience across school counseling, psychology teaching, and life skills facilitation.
My work sits at the intersection of education and mental well-being. I have taught psychology at CBSE and international school levels, designed and delivered Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs for students from Grade 2 through Grade 12, and provided individual counseling support for children, adolescents, and adults. I also run my own practice focused on counseling and workshop-based life skills coaching.
I hold an IB Category 1 certification, a CASEL-accredited introduction to SEL, and a certification in Teaching Character and Creating Positive Classrooms from Relay Graduate School of Education. These aren't just credentials. They reflect a genuine commitment to understanding how people learn, grow, and thrive.
My teaching style is structured but human. I believe that every student whether preparing for a board exam or working on their communication skills deserves sessions tailored to their specific needs, delivered in a space that feels safe and non-judgmental.
I have facilitated workshops for schools, rehabilitation centers, NGOs, and community groups, which means I'm comfortable adapting to very different learners and contexts. Students often tell me that what they appreciate most is that I make complex ideas feel accessible and that they leave each session with something they can actually use.

Psychology isn't just a subject. It's a lens that changes how you see yourself and everyone around you. I'm Oviya, a Counseling Psychologist and SEL Educator with a Master's degree from Christ University, Bangalore, and over two years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults across schools and counseling settings.

MY TEACHING APPROACH:
I believe learning happens best when it feels relevant to your real life. Every session is built around three things: understanding, reflection, and application.
I use a mix of:
• Interactive discussions and real-world case studies instead of passive lecturing
• Role plays, freeze-frame activities, and creative exercises to bring concepts to life
• Reflective journaling prompts to deepen personal insight
• Structured frameworks for social communication — so you don't just understand the theory, you actually practice the skill
For academic students, I break down complex theories into relatable examples and help connect textbook content to everyday experiences, making it far easier to retain and apply.
HOW A TYPICAL CLASS LOOKS
A standard 60-minute session usually flows like this:
→ Warm-up (5–10 min): A quick reflection question or activity to get you thinking
→ Core concept (20–25 min): Clear explanation with examples, visuals, or a short case study
→ Application activity (15–20 min): Role play, discussion, or skill practice
→ Wrap-up (10 min): Key takeaways, Q&A, and a simple practice tip to carry forward
Sessions can be adjusted based on your pace, goals, and whether you're preparing for exams or working on personal growth.
