About Mei

I love teaching and helping students to become more confident using English and reach their language-learning goals. My background in languages helps me to be aware of the problems different people might have with English grammar and pronunciation. I love to challenge my students and include lots of fun activities so you can enjoy learning!

About the lesson

Hello! I'm Mei and I'm 25 from Milton Keynes. I have a background in languages and became certified as an English teacher last year. I can help you with spoken and written fluency, reading, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and formal/essay writing.

I like to have a practical focus to my lessons - I believe students learn best when they are doing as much as possible themselves. I like to get to know you and find out your interests and preferences before we start learning so I can tailor my lessons especially towards you. Depending on your preferences and goals, we can have different styles of lessons - for example, if you mainly want to practice speaking, we can spend most of the lesson having conversation practice on different topics and coming up with relevant vocabulary. If you'd like a more comprehensive style of lesson, we would have a lesson plan that mostly follows this basic format: warmer (5 - 10 mins discussion on topic of lesson); introduction of topic (eg. through reading a text, listening to a recording, watching a short video); language analysis; language exercises; going through answers; follow-up activity (eg. a discussion on the topic, a game, etc). It really depends on what you want to do and what your main aims for English are!

I'm very friendly and easy-going and while I like to challenge my students, nothing will ever be too hard for your level. Don't worry or feel embarrassed about making mistakes, you're learning! I'm also happy to help you if you have any questions outside of class - just message me if you need help with any of the material. With regard to homework, you can choose whether you would like any or not.
