About Hannah

I am a recent graduate of the University of Edinburgh, and I’m now studying for a Master's in Music on the cello at RNCM. At Edinburgh I received a first class BMus Hons, and over my time there I was awarded the Sir Thomas Beecham Scholarship for performance, the Eileen Cameron Music prize for contribution to the musical life of both the faculty and the wider city, and the Janet Buckley Memorial Prize for academic study of music. I was principal cellist of the university symphony and string orchestras across all four years at the university, and in my last year I became President of the string orchestra where I secured us a place in a Channel 4 children’s TV show called ‘Meet the Experts’. I’ve recorded for Spotify tracks and amateur film scores, and I spent a month this summer playing opera in Berlin.

About the lesson

I teach in a way that combines a solid grounding in instrumental technique with musical expression. Engagement with the music and enjoyment are my top priorities in lessons: I will work with each student to find out what their goals are, be that passing the next exam, completing a new piece, or simply working on emotional expression and enjoyment in music. After years in the performance world myself, I am keen on being open about performance anxiety and individual struggles surrounding performance in lessons, relating what we learn together into a wider performance context. Lessons can be 40 minutes or an hour, I am looking for students of any age, standard between beginner and grade 5.

Perfect! Hannah has been absolutely incredible. I cannot recommend or thank her enough. She is teaching my son, who faces some learning challenges, with remarkable patience and understanding. She has personalised the lessons to cater to his needs and to teach him music he truly loves to play. It is also a delight to hear Hannah play. It is beautiful and inspiring.
