About Rasmus

I have a degree in Religious Studies and Semitic Philology from the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen and Hebrew University, Jerusalem, respectively. Both my master's degree and bachelor's degree are from SDU, and I have studied Semitic philology as a minor at KU and self-study at Hebrew U.

I started to get interested in Hebrew even before I started my education. In my sabbatical year after high school, I traveled to Israel and worked in a kibbutz in the desert. It was a huge experience and I fell in love with the history and language of the country. Therefore, I decided to study the History of Religion. Subsequently, I have traveled a lot in Israel, and am just waiting for the next opportunity to be able to go back there.

I have some teaching experience from Middelfart Friskole, where I worked as a substitute teacher for a period. In addition, I have worked as an Instructor / Teaching Assistant on the subject of Ancient Christianity at the University of Southern Denmark and ran a voluntary study group in Biblical Hebrew.

About the lesson

- This course is for anyone who wants to learn the language of the Bible - the language that King David spoke.
- I will give an introduction to the Hebrew language system and its historical origins.
- The purpose of the course is not to become fluent in biblical Hebrew, but to take the initial steps.
- We will read a lot of passages from the Bible - for example, 1 Samuel 28 or 1 Kings 18. In addition to the reading part, I will provide homework, where you will be translating passages. In the beginning, these will be very short tasks. For example, translate "אֱלהִים". Over time, we will read sentences and eventually longer passages.
- My teaching style is very relaxed, and based on conversation rather than old-fashioned rote learning. I expect you to familiarize yourself with the tasks, but otherwise, we just take it easy. It is difficult to learn a dead language, and therefore the teaching will not focus on memorization, but simply to know the facets of the language. That way, you will be able to read a Hebrew text with the help of a dictionary.
