I enjoy working with students of all ages and at all levels of study. In our first lesson, I like to take some time to get to know each other - you can ask me anything you'd like to know about my background, and I can take time to find out what you want to study and how you like to learn. I then tailor each lesson to your needs: that might include a bit of "talk time" from me, outlining important concepts and ideas, but it will also certainly include plenty of time for discussion and questions. If you are doing homework between sessions, then we will make some space for you to talk me through what you have been working on, and then to explore it in more detail together.

Perfect! Simon is very friendly and supportive. He makes books I once found difficult easy to understand, and our discussions always help me see literature in new and interesting ways. The atmosphere is relaxed, fun, and never judgmental. I’m really looking forward to more sessions with him!
- Stella is a real pleasure to study with - thoughtful, engaged and really willing to discuss and explore what we are studying.Simon's response :
Perfect! Simon is knowledgeable, kind, and good humored. His teaching style allows you to come to your own learnings while also pointing out aspects you might not have considered. It has been a pleasure to work with Simon, and I have seen my improvement in terms of both analysis and writing in just the short time we have had classes together.
- Great introductory discussion with Harsha, who was a really ethusiastic and thoughtful student to connect with. I am looking forward to more discussions on literature and creative writing in the coming weeks.Simon's response :

For the past three years I have taken Simon Gregor's courses with the Women's Institute College and Learning Hub in England. The subject matter has been very varied ranging from the plays of Shakespeare to the history of the United States, from modern poetry to the conflict in the Middle East or from the history of migration in Britain to "The Great Gatsby". It is always exciting to learn what the new term will offer. He is passionate about his subject matter and is a specialist in the First World War.
Thoughtful and open-minded, he is committed to the growth and well-being of his students and encourages them to share views and actively participate in the class. Classes are always enjoyable as well as challenging.
As a mature student, I can say that I have learned more from Simon's classes than from my prior traditional school experience. It is noticeable that one sees many familiar faces when one signs up for another of Simon's classes.
Simon Gregor would be a valuable asset to any learning programme and I am very pleased to recommend him.
I know Simon as I have studied a lot of his short education courses as a mature student - he is such a good teacher that I keep coming back for more. But, more relevantly, I have been so impressed with his teaching skills that I arranged for him to tutor my eldest grandson prior to his (UK) A levels, and that went so well that he is now tutoring my younger grandson, who said (voluntarily!) recently that he has learnt more from Simon than from all his school teachers put together. Simon makes students think in a constructive way, and has certainly improved my grandsons’ exam technique.
I have enjoyed and benefitted from many lectures and extended online Denman courses led by Simon over the past five years. His sessions are always exceptional well prepared, engaging and thought provoking and his engagement with his students warm, positive and encouraging. During the past two and a half years he has led an on-going series of ten week courses in English Literature in which I am participating. These have brought me to a deeper appreciation of a number of plays and novels and kindled in me an enthusiasm for poetry which had not been unlocked by my teachers and lectures when I was a college student. One of my very few regrets in life is that he was not my teacher decades ago when I was at college. Working under his guidance has significantly changed my life for the better because he is a truly inspirational teacher.
I have considerable experience of evaluating education in UK and European universities. In addition I have studied and worked in universities in California and New York City I can, without hesitation recommend Simon Gregor. I have taken and am taking a number of his courses in history and in politics. I have found them to be exemplary, well planned and pitched exactly right to challenge his audience without frustrating them.
Put simply, Simon is a great teacher. He has a friendly personality, immediately putting you at your ease. He has a way of explaining things that make sense and make you think about ideas and concepts from different viewpoints. I had the pleasure of attending, via zoom, English Literature classes. He made all the students feel comfortable in the environment and encouraged all to take part and share their ideas in a safe space. 100% recommendation.
