About Angela

Being still a student myself, I remember (and experience everyday) how it feels to be just a bit lost in your own studies. The issue is rarely that you don't know something — it's almost always that you're not sure what exactly it is that you don't know! To me, a tutor's job is not only to give you the knowledge needed to advance in your subject, but also to help identify your weaknesses and strengths, as well as give you the ability to improve and problem-solve independently in the future. A tutor is also different to a school teacher, in that a tutor will be more able to build an individual rapport with the student, and can help with the specific questions and queries of each student. Sometimes, the problem isn't as simple as a correct or incorrect answer; this is when tutors can sit down and work through all the little things that you might be unsure of with you. The lessons given should not only impart knowledge, but also give you the confidence to continue to learn and improve in your own time. As a tutor, I want to help you achieve your academic goals. But more importantly, I hope to make sure that you are always able to achieve your goals, with or without a tutor. I look forward to working together to devise a plan to help you achieve what makes you feel the proudest.

About the lesson

HI! My name is Angela and I have been a private tutor for over 5 years, teaching both internationally and within the UK. The best thing about private tutoring is the personalised learning experience each student is able to receive based on their proficiency, confidence, and of course, their interests! A typical lesson will be around an hour, but timings will be flexible according to the needs of the student, all they need to do is ask. I am happy to help all year groups, from early years to university applicants, and will ensure that I am the most informed I can be about each student's curriculum. Each lesson will be based on the specific areas that each student requests extra assistance for. For students that do not have a specific query, don't worry! After a placement/introductory lesson, I will be able to form a lesson plan based on what I believe will be the most beneficial; this lesson plan will grow and evolve as the student and I begin to identify which areas need more work, together. Students are more than the curriculum they study, and therefore, my teaching approach will also change based on the personality and likings of each student — as well as what they suggest to me, I am always happy to receive feedback. Having taught internationally, I am also happy to teach ESL learners of all nationalities, and am fluent in Mandarin.
