About David
I read English at Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge, and then completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at City University. I am a freelancer in education, finance, and marketing. I have worked as a professional tutor for over twelve years. During that time I have spent thousands of hours tutoring over 250 pupils from younger children to fully fledged adults. I hugely enjoy helping my students gain confidence in the subject and begin to achieve results above and beyond what they could ever have anticipated.

I read English at Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge, and then completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at City University. I have worked as a professional tutor for twelve years. During that time I have spent thousands of hours tutoring over 250 pupils from younger children to fully fledged adults. I am a firm believer that the best way to improve a student's abilities is to help them discover how to enjoy the subject, and therefore to improve their confidence. I like to establish a plan early on, tailored towards the student and timeframe, to give a clear direction to the sessions. A typical lesson in English as a foreign language: -10 minutes revising vocab and grammar from previous meeting -30 minutes reading a text / watching a video on a subject of interest to the tutee, repeatedly pausing to ask questions, discuss new features of grammar, and recording new vocab -10 minutes on a writing task based on what we have read / watched / learned -10 minutes revising concepts from the day, setting any homework A typical lesson in academic English (Literature): -5-10 minutes revising concepts learned in previous meeting -40 minutes on main task - e.g. a set text poem, extract of prose, exam paper, reading, analysis, lots of questions to challenge the student -10-15 minutes on guided written responses and establishing any homework
