About Mikayla
Mikayla Frank-Martin specializes in contemporary/new music, orchestra, chamber music, klezmer, pop music, and solo work. Mikayla graduated from Lawrence University with a Bachelor's in both trombone performance and psychology and is pursuing a Master's at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She combines both of her undergraduate majors through her research in managing music performance anxiety and normalizing it as a natural part of music creation. In addition to her research in music performance anxiety, she has led initiatives to increase awareness of diversity and inclusivity in the brass world, as well as helped put together a database for undercelebrated composers. Mikayla hopes to use her music to promote social justice and emotional confidence among fellow musicians.

I believe that music performance and education should be accessible to all communities. Music learning is an incredible tool for self-exploration, discipline, and focus. In my teaching, I find ways to highlight the uniqueness of my students. All people come from different backgrounds and have varying learning styles. As a teacher, it is my job to adapt and discover what techniques will help my students succeed. Having received a bachelor's in psychology, I apply my undergraduate research to both my performance and my teaching. I hope to guide my students in finding their passions as well as to accompany them on their journeys of self-discovery.
