About Aya
I’m from Japan and have lived in Vancouver for over 5 years.
Because I learned English as an adult, I know how stressful it can be to speak a new language.
That’s why I create a friendly, low-pressure environment where you can feel comfortable and enjoy learning.
Before teaching full-time, I worked in customer service and sales at a Japanese bank, and later as a cake decorator in Vancouver.
I love hiking ️, cycling , baking , ballet 🩰, and traveling .
I enjoy the little moments in life — and I want my lessons to feel the same: genuine, joyful, and without pressure.

【Beginners】
・Step-by-step guidance with patience and positivity
・Basic grammar & useful phrases for daily life
・Natural pronunciation & conversation
・Examples: self-introduction, talking about your day, ordering food, hobbies
In my lessons, we choose one main textbook together based on your learning goals. I use two well-known beginner textbooks, 《GENKI》 and 《IRODORI (free)》, each with a different focus. Along with the textbook, I use my own materials, visuals, repetition, and real-life examples to help you learn naturally and with confidence.
【News & Culture Discussion (Intermediate+)】
・Short articles on current events, culture, food, travel
・Vocabulary expansion and expressing opinions
・Flexible: conversation, journaling, or casual discussion
【Travel Japanese】
・Practical phrases for hotels, restaurants, transportation, shopping
・Cultural tips and polite expressions
・Real-life practice scenarios
Ideally, 2-3 times a week, starting 3 months out, but last-minute prep is also welcome. All Levels welcome:) Let's get you ready for your best trip ever!
