About Mike

I'm an energetic approachable teacher who enjoys challenging my students in a judgement-free environment. I encourage active participation and want to ensure a happy classroom environment for any student I teach. I believe that everyone has unique qualities and attitudes to learning and I think finding the right approach for the student is the best way to really unlock your potential!

About the lesson

I believe in integrating student interests into lesson plans, and will try to bring in specialised vocabulary based on those interests. My lessons typically involve introduction of a grammar point, ensuring the foundation is fully understood, then testing that understanding through additional activities and prompts.
Typically my lessons will last about 1 hour and be split up into an introduction of the topic, an explanation, some basic Q&A to understand comprehension, before creating a scenario in which this point can be tested and expanded upon.

I have 4 years teaching experience working in Japan, and 10 years personal experience learning Japanese. I am JLPT N3 certified and my lessons are aimed at beginners or intermediate Japanese speakers looking to solidify their knowledge. All ages welcome!

Mike was a huge help when I began learning Japanese! He was very welcoming and offered a no-judgement environment, so it was okay for me to make mistakes when I was struggling on some concepts. He also helped me come up with good ways to remember certain things I was confused with. I highly recommend!!
