About Tim
Tim is an experienced writer who has worked with a wide range of production companies, including BBC Studios, CPL Productions, The Comedy Unit, Sparklab Productions, Naked Productions, and many more, with credits on multiple long-running BBC television comedies, as well as BBC Radio 4 and BBC Scotland.
He has also worked directly with new writers as part of the BBC's College of Comedy, and runs workshops for writers in Manchester. He is the Editor of British Comedy Guide's professional platform, BCG Pro.
Tim has read thousands of scripts by new and establishing writers, managing the shortlist for multiple industry opportunities and initiatives - he knows exactly what will impress script readers and producers (from page one), as well as those crucial and all-too-common pitfalls to avoid.
*****
“Tim is a narrative comedy expert, able to break down and explain the essential elements of sitcom and comedy drama writing in a simple and engaging way… He is deeply embedded in the industry, and up-to-date with all its latest priorities and practices.” - Aaron Brown, Editor, British Comedy Guide
“Tim has a natural instinct for structure and narrative and a great talent for comedy.” - Susan Nickson, Writer and Executive Producer (Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, Birds Of A Feather, Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything)
"Tim is an outstanding mentor and collaborator. As part of Comedy Lab, he has played an invaluable role in supporting emerging writers and performers, offering insightful guidance, compassionate critique, and practical advice drawn from years of experience in the industry. His approach emphasises clarity of character, narrative purpose, and joke craft, while ensuring students feel heard and encouraged in developing their own comedic voices.
“Tim has an exceptional knack for helping new writers turn rough ideas into fully realised sitcom premises, providing structure, confidence, and a working sense of what makes a scene land. His sessions are grounded, accessible, and energising — full of laughter, learning, and a genuine belief in the creative potential of others. He is patient, respectful, and deeply generous with his time and knowledge.” - Tom Short, Founder, Comedy Lab

Got a great idea for a sitcom or comedy drama?
We will work together to take your show from an initial concept to a completed pilot script, with dedicated sessions exploring and demystifying all the key elements of narrative comedy writing - world, character, structure, story and dialogue - as we go.
Already have a script?
We will discuss in detail what works, what doesn't, and how to take it forward.
One-off sessions are also available - I find structure and story-lining are areas where newer writers often struggle, and I can provide targeted support on these (as well as advice on writing treatments and getting your work out there).
My way of working is informal and collaborative - my aim is to pass on practical techniques (used by actual working writers) and up-to-date industry insight, not academic jargon.
I will treat you as any good script editor should treat a writer: encouraging you to ask questions, have ideas, and respond to my suggestions, as we work together to make your script the best it can be.
