About SOPHIE

My name is Sophie, my favourite colour is pink, my hobbies are painting, reading, arts and crafts, watching TV, shopping and exploring nature. My favourite food is a roast or anything pudding, I love animals, I am married and I have two small children whom I love dearly. I am a self-taught expert in computer skills, formal writing and Microsoft Access/ Office and have always had a fascination with computing since I was a small child. I’ve worked as a specialist support worker in learning difficulties, physical disability, epilepsy & mental health as well as in a nursing setting for 13 years, however due to my own health reasons and an injury I had to give up my job. During my time as a support worker, I also spent time teaching my colleagues and clients how to write in a formal manner and find their way around computers, and it was here I realised my true passion - teaching in my favourite subject. I enjoyed having the one-to-one interaction with these people, providing a skill to them which would really help them reach their potential, to secure a position in their dream job and learning how to communicate with professional personnel. It makes me feel happy that I am able to do that for someone and I’ve learned that I wish to do that for more people who really need that support.

About the lesson

I like to engage with my students on a personal level, to help make them feel more comfortable and determine their learning style so I can adapt my teaching to suit that student's individual needs. Most students struggle to write in a formal way and mostly write using their “voice” formality, which is fine on a day-to-day level, however, when you need to write a letter or fill in a form, for e.g., DWP, council, you need to write in a formal manner so that the person reading can understand you. If you are applying for a job, you usually have to send the employer your CV and a covering letter, which needs to be written in a certain way so that person or company will take your application seriously. I am the person that can help you with these subjects, so you can become successful with formal writing skills, spelling, grammar, paragraphing, structuring and formatting. I also offer help with basic computer, smartphone, tablet and Microsoft Access (Office) use.
