About Jodie

At the age of 10 years old, I started singing lessons weekly and sang in productions of ‘Oliver’, ‘Half a Sixpence’ and ’Showboat’ with local amateur dramatics society, Silhouettes. From 11-16 years old I went from strength to strength, winning folk, musical theatre, pop and opera categories in music festivals around North East Lincolnshire and was an external student with the London College of Music and Speech, passing grade 8 with a merit. From the age of 17, I embarked on a long career as singer and DJ working all over the world building my stage craft. Somewhere in the middle of all of the performing, I achieved a 2.1 BA Hons Degree in Music and Media Management at the London Metropolitan University. It was during the university years that I began to teach singing and organise workshops for both younger and older crowds. I started to work part time in residential homes, working with the elderly on music workshops to try and transport them back to the good old days. This involved talking through the songs that they remembered and then having a sing through them without taking it all too seriously. It was through these workshops that I decided I not only wanted to perform, but also start to teach. In 2012, I moved to China for a singing contract and while out there performing was approached by a private school looking for a vocal coach to not only create a show for the students to sing at their end of year ceremonies, but devise a whole teaching programme. The schedule was varied and included a choir workshop to work on harmonies, classes for 1 on 1 students who were more serious about vocal technique, history of music, rap battles and song writing workshops and confidence building when performing. I worked at the school for over two years and put on mini productions of Les Miserables, Glee, La La Land, School of Rock and several choir performances. The aim was to build the children's confidence, give them a better understanding of rhythm, melodies and really experience the joy of what music can bring. Since moving back to the UK a couple of years ago I have been working for Scarlett Entertainment as a senior event planner, gigging up and down the country with my singer DJ act and teaching singing. Since lockdown I have been teaching online as all the schools I work for as a peripatetic teacher have now temporarily closed. I would love the opportunity to engage and work with even more students. I hold a full DBS certificate and references if required.

In general my lessons generally include: * Auditions and showcase prep * Festivals and competition * Pop music, jazz, contemporary, electronic song, rock - all styles covered * Confidence building and vocal technique/improvement * Perfect Riffs and Improvisation in pop songs * Musical theatre pieces and pronunciation.
