TESTIMONIALS FROM PAST STUDENTS:
Ioannis, you're the best. I mean that! I have a feeling we will be in touch long after this semester ends. I respect you and your opinions and am lucky to have had you as a teacher. I know everyone in the class feels the same way.
All my best, CR

It was really a pleasure learning from you and you taught me more this semester than my two years at ASU. I look forward to seeing you around.
Thank you, CL

Mr. Skiotes,
Thank you for the good word. We are so excited to hear the news. In September, Nick was ready to quit college. His perseverance guided by inspiring teachers as yourself have given him great hope and drive to succeed. My wife and I will be forever grateful.
Best wishes, DH

Thank you Ioannis for all your support. Nick found you and your class inspiring allowing the best of his abilities to shine through. Teachers of your caliber are to be commended. When Nick started this semester we were unsure how well he would handle the course work and now he is excited about continuing his goal to achieve an associates degree in film.
With deep gratitude for your support and devotion as a teacher. Sincerely, DH

Mr. Skiotes,
Just a note to say how grateful Nick and I are that you are so open to allowing Nick to succeed in your class. Nick has high functioning autism. He is very intelligent but struggles with language. He is passionate about film and looks forward to creating his own screenplays. Nick will need some accommodation in your class with a note take, or his brother's attendance to make sure Nick understands the course material and requirements. You have been exemplary in you openness to allow students challenged by disabilities succeed. Thank you for all of your support. Best, DH

Your book is far superior to Whitcomb's regarding the specifics that are needed to have the fundamental skills. So, I want to thank you on behalf of myself and other students who have taken your class for writing and including your chapters as part of the course. It would be lacking without your content. Sincerely TT

Awesome! I always hear good things about your class. Have a great day. Dept Secretary

Too bad we can't have a class at Starbucks on MLK day. Thanks for a great first day at class, you held my attention for the entire duration and I appreciate that. Best, TW

Thank you for all of the information. I'm so excited for this class! See you next week. Best, AA

Thank you. I hope to see you next year. I like the fact you really try to prepare us for the future. Keep up the good work. Good, caring teachers are very rare and hard to find. I hope you have a great holiday. Best, LB

Thanks for a great class this semester. I learned a lot, it was a really good group of folks, and want to continue on. I'm attaching my script with the edits I've made. I know it needs more and will continue to work on it. Thanks again for keeping us engaged this term! RM

It's been an honor and a pleasure having you as an instructor, and I've learned a tremendous amount this semester. I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity. Thank you. CR

Thanks Yannis, for helping me with my scene cards. Your class is so fun - we all enjoy your teaching style! AM

Dear Professor Skiotes,
I was in your fall 2011 screenwriting class. I just wanted to write and ask if you'd be willing to write a letter of recommendation to the University of Arizona School of Film and Television for me? Your class on top of all others truly inspired me to pursue a career in writing. You're known passion for the craft left me wanting the same thing for myself. I've taken a mass amount of classes through my academic career but yours was the one that lead me on a path that I refuse to get off of. Getting into the University of Arizona is my next obstacle on this path. Thanks for your wisdom and consideration, MB

Here is what he wrote me afterward:
"I just wanted to thank you again for writing that letter of recommendation and all of your help. I can't tell you how thankful I am that I walked in to your class. You truly inspire all of your students. Your passion and knowledge for the craft has helped me form the vision of my future. Thanks again Yanni, I'll keep in touch." MB

MB updated me that he is now working Development for Warner Bros in Burbank! Fine young man, too. Here’s his email. “Just wanted to let you know that this morning’s interview couldn't have gone any better. As soon as he acknowledged the fact that every project relies on the heart of the story I knew that I wanted to be working for this company. I pretty much said exactly what you told me to say. At the end of the interview I asked if he was going to give me the job, he got up and said follow me, he then walked to a vacant office (which is much nicer than the office I sit in at work everyday haha) and said "this is your desk on the weekends I'll get a key made for you this week". I'm extremely excited. I'll be helping with producing and promoting. Thanks again for all your help. Like you said, “Just gotta keep getting in the ring." MB

Thank you so much Yanni, I really enjoyed your class and appreciate you helping make my story come alive. If it is ok with you, I would like to email you when I have more screen writing questions. Hope to hear from you soon. CT

Thank you, professor. I very much enjoyed class last night, and am looking forward to a positive semester. Best, CT

Hello Ioannis, You ARE a lifesaver. The legend looks awesome! NO

Hi Ioannis, This is a great legend. Thanks for putting it together for us. It looks very complete, and gives us all something to work off of when we are grading screenplays. CR

I appreciate all of your help. I enjoyed your class very much and hope we cross paths in the future. Thank you, RC

Thanks for your valuable feedback. I have made all the changes you suggested and attached the final script (8 pages) in PDF as well as celtx format with this note. I really enjoyed this class and will try to get in screenwriting II next semester. Thanks again for everything. MA

Hey Ioannis I made the changes you suggested. I noticed the grade has already been posted but I'm sending this to you anyways. Thanks for the great class, and I am appreciative of everything you taught me this semester. Thanks, ZB

Wish we could continue into screenwriting 2. Was a great class with you this year, please keep in touch. TH

SEMINAR / WORKSHOP TESTIMONIALS
“Yanni’s simply the best screenwriting teacher I’ve had. And I read all the books, been to the college film programs, the seminars.” SM (student)

“I thought your lectures were outstanding and motivating. Your understanding of the material is almost intimidating. I made it to almost every class and I live 150 miles away.”
MatM (student)

"I read your book, and used your formula... It really works! Tying together structure and character are tough for me. Your book helped me so much!" LK (student)

“Thank you for being such an inspiration to the art of screenwriting, it has changed the way I look at the whole process of film. Your class on top of all others truly inspired me to pursue a career in writing. Your passion for the craft left me wanting the same thing for myself.”
MB (student)

“Your Screenwriting Workshop was not only informative but enthusiastic, positive and fun! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and learned a great deal. I am truly grateful for the education I received, both astounded and appreciative of how graciously you offered your time and knowledge.” CL (student)

“Congratulations on an excellent workshop series - you are awesome!” SD (student and script analysis)

“Great guest speakers! I especially enjoyed listening to Yanni, spoke with so much passion and intensity. The film business is a very tough business. He was very honest and open with his opinions and his personal experiences. I could have listened to him for hours. I wish he could come back and talk more about screenwriting. So glad you had him speak to the group. It isn't a normal occurrence to have the fortunate opportunity to listen to someone in the business speak with so much HONESTY and PASSION. Listening to someone like Yanni speak and share in his personal stories is a rare treat and privilege.” ST (student)

“I like your approach as I think most of the rest of the class did, too. Knowledge coupled with inspiration. Keep up the great work.” JT (student)

“Thanks again for all your hard work at the classes. I am learning a lot, and have made leaps in progress with my project. Your classes are very insightful and motivating. Your class can give me the basic building blocks that I've needed to produce a great screenplay and realize my dream. Thank you very much for sharing your passion and your wisdom."
CL (student)

“I really enjoyed your workshops, and the energy you put into teaching.” LK (student)

“You can teach Yanni! One of the best and entertaining classes I took.” LP (student)
"I attended your workshop at Collins yesterday. I’m writing to thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and wisdom about the screenwriting process and your experience as a writer in the film business. You had mentioned how important it is for you to share your knowledge with others, and I feel that is one of the greatest gifts to give. I have been in the film business a long time, and your workshop is one that I went home feeling ‘buzzed’ from the wealth of information. I enjoyed your class very much." AL (Writer / Producer)

“Thank you so much for your dedication. This has been such a learning experience and fun too! This was just the impetus that both my friend and I needed to get ourselves going!” CR (student)

“Just wanted to express appreciation for your willingness to share your experiences, and your fair approach to doing business.” CB (student)

“I have read only three books and have found that, the more I read the more confused I get. Last week, you answered as well as confirmed my own thought process on the subjects covered. Thank You.” SH (student)

“Thanks so much for your detailed page notes. I’m still waiting for my manager to get back to me before beginning a rewrite. However, once I get into the rewrite I look forward to incorporating all of your great suggestions. Thanks so much!” AT (screenplay contest winner)

“I can't tell you how much I am enjoying your class and from the way my western went over tonight how much I have obviously learned.” RA (student)

“It has been a tremendous experience. I am awed and humbled by your generous sharing of time and your estimable expertise. And it is reassuring to know that professional standards are still being observed and taught.” PY (student & lawyer)

“I want to say that I loved your course and learned a lot of very valuable information. I think anyone seriously committed to writing screenplays should definitely start with your class. I had read several books about script writing and that was a good start, but your course provided the foundation and practical knowledge to create a successful script. In addition to the actual writing techniques you teach, your information about what industry professionals look for in a "commercial" script was also incredibly valuable...the ancillaries, music, etc. Thank you so much for the sharing your knowledge and inspiring us to write quality scripts.” MarM (student)

“Thanks for a really informative lecture. I feel that I got a lot out of it and I am terribly excited about all I have to learn and do.” CP (student)

TESTIMONIALS FROM INDUSTRY PROS:
“If Loving You script is too good not to get produced. So well written it practically directs itself.” Producer Terry Donnelly (12 Angry Men, The Exorcist, The French Connection, Midnight Cowboy)

“Best screenwriter and teacher in Arizona by far. Completely nailed the rewrite for us, saved the project. Gives sophisticated story analyses that only a gifted professional could devise!”
Producer Terry Donnelly (12 Angry Men, The Exorcist, The French Connection, Midnight Cowboy)

“The best writer I’ve encountered, except for Robert Towne. I thought I was the hardest worker in Hollywood, but Yanni’s right up there with me. His work is meticulous. He’s a perfectionist.” First AD Benjamin Rosenberg (Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Nine ½ Weeks, Mambo Kings, Black Rain, Prizzi’s Honor)

"Blue Rose shows the true underbelly of this horrific world that is so prevalent today. Something young people need to know about and not be seduced into. What I really like is the protagonist Anna, a strong, empowered young girl, very consistent with the current zeitgeist of female driven films. Making her a singer is refreshing and love the wrap-around of opening and closing with a powerful musical performance. Like that Anna and her mom have a good relationship and Anna isn't a cliché of a girl from a broken home."
Exec In Charge of Production Deborah Moore (50 films, many New Line Cinema)

"Thank you for sending your script. You are a good writer. The script is very well written.” Producer/Director Hilbert Hakim (Krews) AD (Batman Begins)

“You are an extremely talented scriptwriter.” Producer Marc Bienstock, Mainline Releasing

“Very good script. I'm going to recommend it for our higher-budget production level.”
Producer Steve Hadju, Impulse & Indigo Productions
He called my American Cutie script, “a sexy, upbeat American Beauty”, tried for $1M financing with mainstream limited theatrical release, something they never did prior. Thus, thought highly of the writing.

"A knowledgeable film producer and an excellent screenwriter. If you're looking for a consulting producer, I recommend Yanni. If you're looking for a screenwriter or someone to critique your screenplay before sending it off for financing, production, or to attract talent, I highly recommend Yanni." Producer Rory Christian, Media 528 Films

“Excellent script analysis. Pretty damn impressed! As usual, nothing gets by you!”
Screenwriter John Patus (Left Behind, Saul, Tribulation Force)

Scottsdale Community College Producer in Charge of Student Films praised mentoring I did with the student on his "Daily" script, calling it "Miraculous how you evolved the script from what was sent to you til now. Magnificent." He wants to make Admin aware how my level of expertise and skill is not available on their screenwriting staff and difficult to find overall.
