About Abdi

With over a decade of industry experience, I specialise in helping students excel in interior design, architecture, and portfolio development. I’ve successfully guided university students and professionals through creative projects, from concept to completion. My daily tools include Vectorworks, Photoshop, and InDesign. Whether you need help mastering design software or developing a standout portfolio, I’m here to help! Interview Questions: 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring? My passion for architecture and interiors sparked during my first year of college while studying BTEC Art and Design. I discovered my love for tutoring in my final year at university, after helping classmates with their projects once mine were complete. This experience showed me how rewarding it is to help others grow creatively. 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less). I teach interior design, architecture, and urban planning. I enjoy exploring creative problem-solving within briefs, encouraging students to think outside the box. The technical and structural elements, while necessary, are less exciting but still critical for developing well-rounded projects. 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? All of my creative teachers across school, college, and university inspired me. They constantly encouraged me to push boundaries in creativity, regardless of whether the subject was fine art, fashion, or architecture. 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor? Patience and empathy are essential qualities in a good tutor. Everyone learns differently, and it’s important to meet students where they are. Many students seek private tutoring because traditional learning environments aren’t working for them, or they may have personal challenges that affect their learning. 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school. The most valuable lesson for design students is that there are no shortcuts in the design process. Successful designs evolve from a solid foundation: starting with concepts and experiments, followed by development, multiple revisions, and finally, the finished design. This journey is crucial for every project. 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject? A key challenge I encounter is teaching students with no prior creative experience. Transforming someone from an academic thinker into a creative designer takes time and persistence, but it’s a process I find incredibly rewarding. 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different? My passion is creativity and design. I love bringing ideas to life through design, and teaching students to do the same gives me great satisfaction. Both designing and teaching are equally important parts of my career. 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ? What makes me a Superprof is my ability to tailor lessons to each student’s unique needs and learning style. I’ve developed a teaching approach that helps students at all levels achieve their best, and my excellent reviews reflect the positive results of this method. Seeing students grow creatively is the ultimate reward. These improvements highlight your expertise and teaching style more clearly, making your profile more engaging for potential students.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have developed an interest in Architecture and Interiors during my 1styear of college studying BTEC Art and Design Nation Diploma Course. My interest in tutoring has began during my final year of university as ended of helping few of my class mates when I have finished my project early.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

The subject I teach is interior design, architecture and urban planning. The topics I enjoy most is the creative problem solving of each brief. The topic I enjoy less is the technical/structural aspect of project.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

All of my creative teachers from school, college and university has always encouraged me to push the envelope on creativity. Regardless of which subject I may be exploring, from fine art to fashion to architecture.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

One of the main qualities of a good tutor is patience and sympathy. It's vital to understand that we all consume information differently. Most students that require private tutor either have difficulty with traditional learning environment or the may be going through a personal struggle.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Most valuable point that I can state for all students studying design is that there is no short cut!! All final designs have to show where it all began. These are vital steps which will apply to all design briefs:

    Concept/Experiments
    Development
    Design Rev A, B etc.
    Final Design
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the main challenges I face in my subject is teaching a student which has no previous experience or knowledge of creativity. Turning an academic student to a creative prodigy is challenge I am constantly overcoming slowly.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is design and creativity in general. I love designing projects just as much as I love teaching design students.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

What makes me a Superprof is that I have developed a wonderful teaching system which accommodated all students from different levels. My ability of tailoring a unique teaching style for each student and seeing the results is what makes me a Superprof. My wonderful reviews from students highlight the major impact my teaching style.
