About John McGovarin
I am an award-winning film editor from Toronto and based in Melbourne. I've worked on shorts, features and music videos that have been shown at local and international film festivals and galleries. I've also cut TVCs and content shown on national broadcasts in Canada and Australia.
I also come from a family of teachers and enjoy helping people discover the craft of editing.
I love experimenting in new digital techniques to push visuals further, and stay on top of visual trends while diving deep into archival approaches from past decades. Ideally I can mix the two and continue to develop my own style.

Editing is a beautiful problem-solving craft where the better you are at collaboratively finding creative solutions, the more successful you can be as an editor. It's important to have an objective mini-film to be completed in each lesson, and to learn by doing.

- Motion design and dynamic titles
- Transition styles
- Simulated mixed media techniques such as lifelike photographs, film projection emulation, animated newspaper headlines, CRT and LED TV effects
