About Kirstin

I have had an extensive performing career all over the world, making numerous recordings moving back to Gloucestershire from a busy career in London. It is a pleasure to be teaching many students in the U.K. what a fantastic and exciting world can be found in music. I grew up in Gloucestershire not just being a musician but also herding cows and dreaming of riding horses before being awarded a place at a special music school. As well as touring the world playing my cello, electric cello and piano with an extensive career in performance, I have also been an academic music teacher in London schools for a few years from Director of Music for a state secondary specialist performing Arts school (KS3, GCSE and A-level) to Prep School class music and piano teacher and have conducted and arranged music for numerous school, borough and national performances.

About the lesson

Very experienced and highly qualified teacher. Fun and creative - I am a great believer in a flexible approach and personalising learning to the individual to enable them to enjoy, remember and develop their musical skill. Travel to your location is included in my fee (Cheltenham/Bishops Cleeve/Gotherington/Winchcombe and localities). For younger students I suggest shorter 30-40 minute lessons (£30–40). My qualifications; LRAM (Licentiate Royal Academy of Music), London BMus - Kings College London (1st class) Post-Graduate Diploma Royal Academy of Music, London (Distinction) PGCE Institute of Education, London ONLINE CRB and Child Protection up to date. I generally work towards Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams and include both theory, aural and sight-reading practice (disguised as games) in my lessons. I keep a diary for each student as a record of what we did and explain/draw any techniques required.

Kirstin taught my daughter for 4 years in which time she progressed to a confident grade 6. She also taught her the necessary theory in a clear and enjoyable way. I think my daughter was improving because Kirstin was very personable and fun, but there was a good level of respect and professionalism that encouraged my daughter to focus in lessons and practise. Kirstin is obviously very experienced and was a very caring and nurturing teacher.
