About Jasmine

I was inspired to create this lesson by a neurologist father with a special needs child. After studying neurology for an unspecified period of time, he inferred that his child did not feel loneliness, or was incapable of feeling loneliness when in fact, his child simply preferred the comfort of being alone to the stress of interacting with people who did not understand their ‘nonverbal language’.

I’ve been working as a business strategist for several years. In my line of work, negotiation and communication is crucial. I’ve attended many training courses and masterclasses on communication, including classes on forensic psychology and empirical aesthetics to understand the psychology behind faces, facial expressions and body language. I’ve tested my skills in the field, slowly, until my skills passed a satisfactory threshold. I recently spoke at a conference for autism, and this topic was very highly-requested for coaching and lessons.

About the lesson

My lessons in communication will include specific instructions and communication structures for different scenarios and formats. Many ‘common sense’, ‘unspoken rules’ and ‘social norms’ concepts are approached scientifically - for example, I define the descriptor ‘cute’ with reference to research from the field of empirical aesthetics. Many of these concepts will be informed by my studies in anthropology.

My lessons are dependent on two central ideas:
1. Autistic people can communicate well, just differently from neurotypical people
2. Communication is a two-way street.

What I’ll primarily be teaching you is ‘translation skills’: how to understand and be understood by anyone you wish. Neurotypical loved ones will learn how to understand and be understood by their neurodivergent loved ones; autistic people will learn how to understand and be understood by anyone they wish, including:
1. In school
2. At work
3. In writing and written communication, including essays, emails and text
4. In public
5. At home
6. On stage
And more.

Details

Sessions can be conducted online, at your choice of library, or at either location of the Farmington Community Library. Public places only. If you require a private space with a fee, I will help locate one but you will be responsible for that fee. Transportation fees will only apply if location is more than 5 miles from Farmington/Farmington Hills. Thank you.
