About Marina Alix
I am a highly educated, passionate professional artist, illustrator, designer and proud owner of an art studio, a multidisciplinary art studio where creativity, artistic expression and education are at the heart of everything I do.
Art has been an important part of my life since childhood. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to studying, practising and exploring various artistic disciplines, developing a deep appreciation for both the practical and historical aspects of art.
With an educational background in Fine Arts, English and English Literature, I bring a combination of academic knowledge, creative experience and a genuine love of learning to my lessons.
My professional experience spans traditional and digital illustration, painting, graphic design, animation, tattoo artistry and numerous other creative disciplines. As an art studio owner, I work with different artistic styles, techniques and influences daily, allowing me to connect historical art movements and theories with their applications in the modern creative world.
Art History is particularly fascinating to me because every artwork tells a story. Understanding the artists, cultures, historical events and creative movements behind these works gives us an entirely new perspective on art itself.
I believe that a good educator should inspire curiosity rather than simply encourage memorisation. My teaching style is relaxed, patient, friendly and engaging, creating a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions, expressing their opinions and exploring new ideas.
Whether you're studying Art History as part of your school curriculum, preparing for examinations or simply interested in expanding your artistic knowledge, my goal is to make learning both educational and genuinely enjoyable.
For me, art is more than a profession. It's a lifelong passion, and one that I thoroughly enjoy sharing with others.

My Art History lessons offer a relaxed, engaging and supportive learning environment where students can explore the fascinating world of art, creativity and artistic expression.
As a professional artist and art studio owner with a strong educational background in Fine Arts, I bring both academic knowledge and practical, real-world artistic experience into my teaching.
My lessons cater to all South African school grades, including CAPS, as well as Cambridge curricula (IGCSE, GCSE, AS and A-Level). Each course is structured according to the student's grade, curriculum, experience and individual learning requirements.
Topics covered include:
The history of art, from ancient civilisations to contemporary movements.
Famous artists, their lives, techniques and contributions to art.
Major artistic movements, including Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism and Modernism.
Understanding and analysing paintings, sculptures, architecture and other artistic works.
Art terminology, symbolism, visual literacy and critical interpretation.
The influence of history, culture, politics and society on artistic development.
Art theory, research, essay writing and examination preparation.
My Teaching Approach
I believe learning should be enjoyable, interesting and accessible. My teaching style is friendly, patient and relaxed, encouraging students to ask questions, think independently and develop their own appreciation of art.
Lessons incorporate visual references, interesting historical stories, discussions and practical examples to make complex subjects easier to understand and remember.
Whether you're a school student preparing for examinations, a university student seeking additional guidance or simply someone passionate about learning about art, my lessons can be adapted to suit your interests and goals.
No prior knowledge of Art History is required. Beginners are always welcome!
