About Jon
I’m a 2:1 BSc Architecture graduate from UWE Bristol, with a background in Maths, Fine Art and Psychology. Studying architecture allowed me to combine creative and analytical ways of thinking, developing my skills in design, drawing, problem-solving and communicating ideas. I enjoy exploring how an initial idea can be developed into something more considered and resolved. I believe all ideas are worth exploring, and sometimes the more unexpected or unconventional ideas are the ones that challenge us most and help us grow. For me, an idea doesn’t have to be conventional, but there should always be substance behind it. I’m keen to help students develop their own ideas and confidence in architecture, art and design.

My approach is to help you understand your work rather than simply tell you what to change. With architecture and design, it can sometimes be difficult to know how to develop an idea or move forward when you are already so involved in your own work. I often try to offer a different angle to what you may already be getting from your teachers, helping you step back and look at your work differently.
I think understanding what you are trying to achieve is just as important as deciding what to change. I aim to make things clearer by helping you understand why something may not be working, what is holding an idea back and where you could take it next. There is no single way of approaching a design problem, so I adapt my approach depending on the student and what makes the most sense to them.
The aim is not simply to tell you what to do, but to help you understand your own ideas and feel more confident about developing them. Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are suitable for students exploring architecture through art and design, preparing portfolios or studying architecture at university.
