About Samuel

I love learning and inspiring others. I could write a million words on why I love to learn, and a further million on why I love to inspire, but if I really boil it down, it comes down to the simple fact that I enjoy helping others, and if we can learn and grow along the way, so much the better. About the lesson

My Methodology: As an aspiring architect, it's important to understand that the creation of a building is more to do with HOW you design, than WHAT you design. Often we get stuck in rabbit holes or dead-ends trying to create the perfect building, when in reality all we need is a set of principles that we can follow to build the most appropriate building for its setting. Architecture is both a science and an art. Taking into account historical precedents, surrounding architecture, building typology, environmental requirements, material choice and the experiential aspects of architecture, we can create a building which is completely fit for purpose, but there's one thing missing: the Architect's flair. More important than any core concepts of design that I could teach you is the development of your OWN design language. YOU are the architect, and if you compromise on your vision, you are doing the world a disservice. My approach focuses on bringing out your "Architect's Voice" and helping you to project it loud and clear. Of course, in order to design, we need the right tools, and there's no escaping the fact that Architects need to be able to Use CAD software as well as being able to sketch well, and so if learning the tools of the trade is all you need, then I'm happy to assist as well (especially in Sketch-Up). Lesson Length: A typical lesson can last anywhere between 1 and 2 hours, as architecture can sometimes present us with complicated problems we need time to help unravel. Qualifications: - 2:1 BSc from the University of Bath - Bartlett Summer School Best Architectural Design Winner - "That one guy in the design studio everyone wanted advice from" - Experience teaching Special Needs Children - 50 Hours of tutoring experience in Mathematics - A-Grade in Art at Pre-U level (A-level equivalent) - A*-Grade in Art History at Pre-U level - A*-Grade in Mathematics (done in 1 year) My lessons are for: - Anyone who needs help building up an architectural portfolio - Undergraduate students - Anyone who needs help with CAD software - Kids interested in buildings who want to have fun while learning
