About Madeleine

I graduated in Engineering and Architecture from UCL, The Bartlett School of Architecture, and now work as a façade engineer in London.

For the past 2 years, I have supported engineering and architecture students with personal statements and university applications. During my time at The Bartlett, I was also a Transition Mentor, Senior Mentor, and Student Ambassador, where I helped students settle into university life and feel more confident in their studies.

My own route into architecture was not completely traditional. I did not take Art or Design subjects at A-Level, so I had to build my portfolio from scratch and learn how to present my ideas clearly. Because of this, I understand how uncertain the process can feel at the beginning, especially when you have potential, but are not yet sure how to show it.

My teaching style is friendly, practical, and supportive. I focus on helping students improve their work, but also on helping them trust their ideas, communicate with confidence, and feel more prepared for their next step.

About the lesson

Applying to architecture, engineering, or design-related courses can feel exciting, but also overwhelming, especially when you are building a portfolio, writing a personal statement, or trying to explain your ideas clearly for the first time.

My lessons are designed to give students clarity, direction, and confidence. We will look at where you are starting from, what you want to achieve, and what steps will help you move forward. Whether you are starting with rough ideas, unfinished sketches, a draft personal statement, or a nearly completed portfolio, I will help you understand how to make your work stronger and more focused.

I can support with portfolio structure, project development, drawing and design feedback, personal statement reviews, interview preparation, and university application strategy. Students are welcome to send work before the lesson, so our time together can be focused on useful, specific feedback.

I also offer a short first consultation to understand the student’s goals and what kind of support would be most helpful.

My aim is to make the application process feel less confusing and more achievable. I want students to leave each lesson with clearer direction, stronger work, and more belief in their own ideas.
