About Raya

I’m a qualified UK Architect with degrees from the Manchester School of Architecture (Part 1 & 2) and the Architectural Association (Part 3).

My route into the profession has been deliberately non-traditional: I began with summer internships, worked in a manufacturing engineering company producing detailed construction information, then moved into specification consulting before transitioning fully into architectural practice. This varied path has given me a grounded, real-world understanding of how ideas progress from early strategy to built reality.

Professionally, I’ve worked on projects from RIBA Stage 0 through Stage 6, including involvement in bidding and early strategic work. My sector experience spans residential, hospitality, mixed-use developments, transportation (airports and rail), commercial, offices, hotels, and refurbishment projects in the UK, Middle East, Central Asia and South East Asia. I’ve contributed to both concept design and technical delivery, coordinated with consultants, directly communicated with clients, led meetings, prepared presentations and reports, giving me a holistic view of the architectural process that many tutors simply can’t draw upon.

Along the way, I naturally grew into a mentoring role. I’ve supported 5+ emerging architects and helped 10+ people refine their CVs and portfolios, many of whom later secured interviews or positions. I realised that talented students are often held back not by capability, but by a lack of structured guidance and insight into the profession. I teach because I want to bridge that gap. Architecture education rarely shows you how to navigate PEDRs, prepare for Part 3, build a coherent portfolio narrative, or understand specification writing.

I genuinely enjoy helping people unlock their potential - and I teach because I care about seeing them succeed.

About the lesson

My lessons follow a personal, attentive and highly tailored approach designed to support you at every stage of your architectural journey. I take the time to understand your goals, your design voice and your specific challenges, whether you’re developing a university project, refining a portfolio, or preparing for qualification.

I have already mentored 5+ emerging architects and helped 10+ people successfully update their CVs and portfolios when applying for jobs. Many of them secured interviews or positions shortly after our sessions, and I bring that same clarity and strategic thinking to every student I work with.

My own path into architecture has been non-traditional, giving me a broad and practical understanding of the industry. I began with summer internships, then worked at a manufacturing engineering company as part of the technical team producing detailed construction information. After that, I moved into specification consulting, before finally transitioning into my current role at an international architecture practice. This varied background allows me to offer insight that goes beyond traditional academic routes.

For Part 3 candidates, I offer comprehensive PEDR preparation and explanation, helping you understand how to structure your experience, articulate your competencies and present your development convincingly. This is in addition to helping with lectures and studies.

I can also support you with NBS Chorus and specification writing, drawing on my professional experience; reading technical drawings; tips for coordinating with consultants; client presentations. Between sessions, I review your work carefully so our time together is focused and productive. Every lesson is shaped around your pace and your ambitions, ensuring you receive committed, personalised guidance that genuinely helps you progress.
