About Eliza
I am a multidisciplinary creative. Growing up I explored, musical theatre, fine art and dance. Throughout higher education, I decided to pursue the visual arts and went on to achieve A's in both my Art GCSE & A-Level. For years, I've tutored art informally, however this last summer I was appointed as the artistic director for a summer school for disadvantaged children in the borough of Croydon. I sourced materials, created lesson plans and facilitated art workshops for 20-30 children per day for a month. I'm currently studying Anthropology & Visual Practice at university and hope to use my artistry to express my activism and investment in equity.

My classes are generally catered to the individual I'm tutoring. Having felt brushed aside by the teaching styles within mainstream education, I make a conscious effort to be extremely sensitive to the needs of my students. For instance, if they are visual learners, I aim to be as illustrative and gestural as possible in my communication style. Although I allow for that flexibility, I have a few methods that I stick by.
Firstly : Quality of Quantity. Instead of overwhelming my students with an excessive amount of new skills. I think it's important to progress slowly with repetition and intention. It's important to give them the opportunity to completely understand the skill in order to not only remember it in the future, but to perhaps pass the skill on.
Secondly : I'm very demonstrative when it comes to skill based learning. I think it's important to show that I, as the tutor, can do the skill in person.
Thirdly : Developing a signature style. One of my main goals as a tutor is for my students to develop their personal technique to a point where their work has character and personality. I believe great art occurs when the artist allows themself to embody their art. I think this is a real confidence building process and it helps to reduce the natural urge to compare oneself to another. You can only be the best you.
Finally, feedback. Feedback is the most important thing. The upcoming lessons will be heavily informed by the previous ones. I hope to provide a safe space where budding artists can feel like they can freely experiment, make mistakes and develop an art style that is unique and deeply personal.
