About Henry
At 29 y/o with 10+ years of teaching experience, a BM Degree in Classical guitar, scholarships from Berklee and Ithaca College of Music summer programs, and experience playing with Grammy Winners/Nominees and Chicago Music Royalty, I would say that Music lessons should be inspiring, student centered, and overall a positive-soulful experience. I use a hyper-holistic model for instruction, informed by my study with Classical Guitar Giants (Oscar Ghiglia, Brian Torosian), Folk Traditionalist(Eric Lugosch), and Jazz-Blues-Theater heroes(Felton Offard, Chris Forte). Every lesson combines repertoire specific technique, theory, and carefully selected music to meet your music goals. I have a vast experience teaching students of many diverse age levels and backgrounds. I have tutored music students from schools like Berklee College of Music, NYU Steinhardt School of Music, and Columbia College Chicago, as well as most recently getting my first 40 y/o adult student into the classical guitar program at University of Illinois (Chicago) after just three months of study. I have also worked at many local music shops in Chicago, which led me to work at the Old Town School of Folk Music where I have group and private classes for kids aged 4-12, Teen ensembles and privates, the schools first "Introduction to Jazz Ensemble" for adult students, and teach in the internationally acclaimed "Core Guitar Program" centered on delivering high quality instruction in acoustic/electric folk, rock, blues, jazz, and classical music.

I use teaching models from both the Classical, Jazz, and Folk music traditions to teach a vast range of styles. A typical lesson consists of technique drills, fretboard ID exercises, and focused study of repertoire. Every student is different though, so I work on taking a holistic approach to picking repertoire and exercises based on where each student is. Generally, my lessons and teaching style is best geared towards adult and adolescent students, but I also have considerable experience tutoring university level music students, children between the ages of 4-12, and the elderly.
