About Dr Matiu
I completed my PhD on time through a thesis by publication, producing four peer-reviewed papers. This experience gives me a practical, end-to-end understanding of navigating candidacy milestones, managing parallel writing and publication workloads, and maintaining momentum in complex research programs. I host weekly shut-up and write sessions with other candidates bringing a structured approach to doctoral work, with a focus on clarity of argument, strategic planning, and translating research goals into achievable outputs.

My focus is on the critical inflection points where candidates commonly stall or receive inconsistent guidance: confirmation of candidacy, development of a coherent publication plan (thesis by publication or monograph), and thesis architecture (argument logic, chapter sequencing, and narrative cohesion).
Beyond formal milestones, I address the “hidden curriculum” of doctoral study; what busy supervisors may not explicitly teach. This includes translating broad research aims into executable work plans, aligning methods with contribution claims, managing reviewer feedback cycles, structuring papers for target journals, and maintaining momentum across parallel outputs. I also support PhD candidates to interpret institutional requirements, prepare for milestone reviews, and position their work for examination and publication.
