About Aidan
My interest in academic support comes from both my academic background and my own experience as a student. Through studying psychology, I became particularly interested in how learning and academic skills actually develop - and how these are not always taught as explicitly as students need in school settings.
At GCSE level, I personally struggled with academic skills such as structure, organisation, and exam technique, and I benefited from working with a tutor myself. That experience helped me build confidence in my abilities and ultimately work towards completing my degree, despite finding earlier stages of my education challenging. This perspective shapes my approach today: I understand how frustrating it can be to feel capable but unsure how to show it in an academic setting.
In sessions, my approach is direct but supportive. I aim to be encouraging, patient, and understanding, while also helping students develop clearer habits and strategies that will genuinely support their progress over time.
I place a strong emphasis on professionalism and academic integrity. I do not complete work on behalf of students; instead, I support them in developing the thinking, writing, and study skills needed to work independently and confidently.
What the First Session Will Be Like:
Sessions are between 30 minutes and 1 hour long and delivered online in a calm, supportive environment.
The first session is primarily diagnostic and focused on understanding the student as an individual. We will explore:
The subjects and areas the student would like support with
Specific difficulties they are experiencing and why these might be occurring
The student’s academic goals and priorities
How they currently approach revision, writing, and exams
Students are encouraged (but not required) to bring recent written work, along with an outline of the subjects they would like support in and what they hope to improve.
Following the first one or two sessions, I aim to create a clear and flexible plan so that the student (and parents) understands the focus of future sessions. While structure is important, this plan can adapt as the student’s needs develop.
Where parents wish to be involved, I am happy to provide regular updates on progress and discuss next steps. However, sessions themselves are typically one-to-one with the student, unless specifically requested, as this often helps students engage more openly and confidently with the work.

I offer tailored one-to-one academic support for secondary and A-level students, with a focus on essay writing, study skills, and critical thinking across English and humanities subjects.
My sessions are designed to help students understand what questions are really asking, organise their ideas clearly, and express those ideas confidently in writing. I work with students who know the content but struggle with structure and clarity, as well as those whose main difficulty lies in preparation, revision, or learning content, and everything in between.
Tutoring support can include:
Essay planning and structure
Improving clarity and argument in writing
Proofreading and feedback on students’ written work
Exam technique and effective question response
Developing study skills and critical thinking
My key aim is to help students improve how they think and write, rather than rewriting work for them. This enables students to apply these skills independently across all their subjects.
Where appropriate, I also support students in learning how to use AI tools responsibly as part of their academic work. This might include using AI to clarify concepts, test understanding, or reflect on their own writing - while ensuring all assessed work remains entirely in the student’s own words.
Sessions are delivered online in a calm, supportive environment and are tailored to each student’s academic level and goals. This support is best suited to GCSE and A-level students who are looking to improve their writing confidence and overall academic skills.
