About Charlie
This year I graduated with a First Class Honours in Politics and International Relations at the University of Aberdeen. I am on the path to becoming a Modern Studies teacher and I'm looking to tutor some people struggling in this subject, hoping to inspire in my students the same passion and curiosity that will help them to succeed in it.

I take a more generalised approach with my teaching that puts the tools for engagement, critical thinking, and independent evaluation firmly in the hands of the pupil. Formulaic teaching might be good for specific circumstances, but I strongly feel that by equipping students with the ability to think for themselves and inspiring in them a natural curiosity for the subject they will be far better placed to excel not only in their exams but also further afield where the sort of skillset required in Modern Studies can prove useful.
I will use a combination of discursive practices and targeted assessment through tailored questions to tease out the underlying difficulties that my students might be having trying to grasp certain topics, before helping them through these problems with a friendly approach which prioritises genuine understanding over memorisation.
